Ailing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has been receiving chemotherapy for the treatment of leukaemia (blood cancer), which knocks him out for 10 hours after every medication. SaharaReporters exclusively reported in January that Akeredolu was suffering from leukaemia. Leukaemia is a blood cancer caused by a rise in the number of white blood cells in the body. The 67-year-old politician returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany but has been holed up in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The first lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu and her son, Babajide have kept Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, against his wishes, SaharaReporters learnt on Monday. SaharaReporters earlier on Monday reported that the ailing governor had been receiving chemotherapy for the treatment of leukaemia (blood cancer). Sources told SaharaReporters that the medication knocks the governor out for 10 hours each time and that he is barely lucid during the day or at night.
President Bola Tinubu has summoned the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the State House of Assembly Speaker, Olamide Oladiji to Aso Villa in Abuja for an urgent meeting. Sources told SaharaReporters that Tinubu will ask that the deputy governor should be allowed to act as governor, to resolve the leadership crisis in the state.
Some family members and aides of ailing Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, have been forging his signatures on official memos, according to some state government documents, obtained by SaharaReporters on Monday. One of the documents, which is from the Ondo State House of Assembly, was signed by Oleyelogun Bamidele David and Jaiyeola B.T, Clerk of the state House of Assembly. The document had a column for the Governor’s assent and governor’s seal, and this was where the signature of Akeredolu appeared, dated 25th Of May.
Kayode Ajulo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has stated that some commissioners in the Ondo State government have been signing official documents in the name of ailing governor, Rotimi Akeredolu. Ajulo, who is the Principal Partner of Kayode Ajulo & Co. Castle of Law, made the allegation on Monday while featuring on Arise Television’s programme.
