what do you see in these early entrants that might be somewhat different than democratic party races in the past and certainly seems like a lot of progressives getting in early? i think this is a prime example of a couple of candidates who are not afraid to take trump head on. i think that s something that voters are going to be really interested in seeing. who can really call out some of the questionable racist things that he does or says and the values that he reports directly while also presenting a positive vision related to economic reform as well as political reform. yeah. and you mention economics. cory booker is certainly on the left on a bunch of social issues, on criminal justice reform, and then on economics he has been a little more center left i guess and certainly talked about, you know, being friendly towards wall street and innovation and job creation. chris christie is someone who is in his state and they have, despite being polar partisan
on wall funding, i think it s a nod to reality. it was going to be difficult to do this without having to shut down. i think the president didn t want that distraction over the next two weeks. it wasn t going to be possible to get the 5 billion. think they realized that were going to have to have this fight another time. ask reality. pete: why do you want to have it when the democrats are in charge? dana: they weren t going to be able to do it now. he gave the direction to the agencies. let me know what money you have available. we might be able to reprogram it. congress is saying if you can t do that. you can argue it round or you can argue it flat. the democrats are not saying they are not for any border security. they would be for border security. they just don t want him to call at the wall. it s just semantics. pete: a fence is moral but a wall isn t? dana: on criminal justice reform, it s a big win for him. sometimes republican presidents can get things done that
evolved in terms of understanding addiction more, understanding drug abuse as a mental health issue, a social issue, and for many of these offenders, they would be better served in a treatment and recovery program, as opposed to being tossed in jail. martha: kelly paul, thank you very much. i m sure you have one vote that you know of on the senate floor, your husband, i would imagine, is he for this? yeah, rand has been working on this since 2010. he partnered with cory booker and kamala harris on some different bills. this is something that he has been passionate about since he was elected. so, for the first time, i m just really hopeful that we may be able to pass a bipartisan way, some good legislation here, and really make a step forward, finally, on criminal justice reform. martha: kelly paul, thank you very much. good to see you tonight. thanks for coming in. so, coming up, amazon speaker,

ward supporters telling jeff sessions to hang on but increasingly they re making it clear, senators graham and grassley that on criminal justice reform and the immigration family separation issue, a whisper campaign that that was jeff sessions s fault and it was not the tacit approval of president trump which from reporting it seems like there was so they are building a case to dump him. what s remarkable 1 that they would led democratic voters know that eight weeks before the midterms. it looks like an energizing campaign message for democrats. and gasly is saying i can open up the calendar, we have space to deal with confirmation hearings. there is also a question about whether the distraction is perhaps part of what we re seeing from some of these republicans, fatigue with the distraction that is the jeff sessions situation and trying to get things done and all of the space that it seems to be occupying and oxygen it seems to be sucking out of the room for
