good morning. welcome to cnn this morning. i m victor blackwell. and i m amara walker. israel s army appears to be entering a new phase of war. an army spokesperson from the idf confirmed to cnn that idf ground forces are in gaza right now. infantry, artillery and other units moved into gaza from the north overnight. as troops march in the north, israel continues to fire missiles across the border. the idf have been launching heavy and continuous air strikes throughout the night into the morning. idf reserve soldiers are calling it the most intense night of bombing of the conflict so far. cnn s jim sciutto is with us now from northern israel. so, israel promised a major ground offensive after the attacks by hamas on october 7th. is it clear yet that this is the beginning of that? that we are seeing that ground incursion in a major way or is this potentially something else? reporter: well, victor, it s the beginning of something. that s no question. because israel

good morning, everyone. i m poppy harlow with phil mattingly in new york. this morning, that desperate manhunt continues for a mass shooter in maine nearly 35 hours after the shooting rampage that left 18 people dead at a bowling alley and a bar and grill. 80 fbi agents have joined the hunt for the suspect robert card, and the coast gafrd is also helping search by air and sea after his car was found at a boat launch. we saw s.w.a.t. teams converge on his last known address. they spotlighted the house and got on to a mega phone to say come out with your hands out, but apparently nobody was inside. they will be back in the neighborhood today. there s a key theory that is emerging. law enforcement sources telling cnn he recently broke up with his girlfriend, the bowl ing alley and the bar were two places they liked to frequent. she was signed up to play in a tu tournament the same night of the shooting. we have some of the names of the victims to share. these are six of the
you heard those bangs, authorities or later heard shouting, you are under arrest. come out with your hands up. it appears the suspect was not actually there at the time. police are searching now for this man, 40-year-old robert card, he s considered armed and dangerous, and charged with multiple counts of murder. officials are telling residents in the areas around lewiston maine to remain vigilant, stay inside, and lock their doors as the search for card continues. that search as it is ongoing, there are of course other locations they plan to investigate in the coming hours. in the meantime, schools, government properties, while the suspect is on the loose. hundreds of local and federal agents are involved in the search, and that investigate in to wednesday s massacre. this has been a concerted effort at the state local and federal level. to everyone is determined to bring the two justice. now the rampage is in fact the deadliest mass shooting in the united states.
