Weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for the weekend. After some glorious weather during the last few weeks warnings have now been put in place. They comes into force on Friday from 10am and will continue into Saturday. A thunderstorm is expected to hit the county with up to 100mm of rain falling. Ollie Claydon, from the Met Office, said: “It’s hard to be precise as the storm is slow moving but we will have unstable conditions into next week. It’s not unusual at this time of the year unlike the named storm last week.

High waves amid a windy day on Portland. Picture: Ken Deadman PORTLAND saw its highest wind gust of the year so far, after the county endured a wet and windy night. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind from 9pm onwards on Wednesday, March 10, with ‘strong winds accompanied by heavy and blustery showers’ forecast overnight. Dorset was battered by strong winds during the night, with many areas reporting wind gusts of more than 50mph. According to the Met Office, Portland recorded a wind gust of 64mph and a wind speed of 46mph at 5am on Portland on Thursday morning. The weather forecaster describes a wind gust as a sudden temporary increase in ongoing wind speed.
