School district working toward in-person school for grades 3-6

Mar 9, 2021 Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent Michael Nelson at the March 4 School Committee meeting. Following the State Board of Education decision to allow the state to mandate a return to full time in-person school for elementary students, the Old Rochester School District is working on a plan to get its third through sixth graders back in the classroom. “Our building administrators have been busy with the help of stakeholders preparing for a pivot to full in-person learning,” Superintendent Michael Nelson said, “at this time receiving updated guidance and direction from the DESE is most important to help finalize our plans.

Jacqueline Marie (Parker) Beckford, 75

Feb 16, 2021 Jacqueline Marie (Parker) Beckford, 75, of Marion,  passed away at home with her children by her side on Feb. 6, 2021, four days after her 75th birthday.   Jacqueline was born on Feb. 2, 1946 in Darby, PA to Alice (Carpenter) & LCDR Francis Parker.  As a child she loved to vacation in Harpswell, ME with her family.  She played tennis, enjoyed swimming and won many trophies from her days on the basketball court.   After graduating from Melbourne High, she moved to Melrose, MA.  There she met the love of her life, the late George W. Beckford, Sr., who asked her to marry him on their first date. They were married within the year and enjoyed 54+ years of marriage. They went on to have four children whom she cherished. Jacqui dedicated her life to her family, children and precious grandchildren. She enjoyed riding on the back of her husband’s Harley and had fond memories of trips to Lake Winnipesauke, Maine and Quebec.

Linda Taylor, 74

Dec 24, 2020 Linda Taylor, 74, of West Wareham, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Tobey Hospital. Linda was the loving partner and companion of 47 years to Judy Greenlaw, also of West Wareham. She was born in Wareham the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Angell) Taylor. She earned her Master’s Degree from Boston University. She taught physical education at Wareham High School for 12 years and developed the Girls Field Hockey program and was the Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. She also taught in the Old Rochester School District, Upper Cape Cod Technical Regional High School and was a coach at UMass Dartmouth. She later worked as a Social Worker at the New Bedford Crisis Center. She also enjoyed tennis and was a semi-pro basketball player. She was a strong supporter of Title IX, giving women athletes the right to equal opportunity in sports in educational institutions.
