Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu or Maghor Domahi is a harvest festival that is celebrated all over Assam. The significance of this festival is to marks the ends of the harvesting season.
The term Bihu is derived from the Sanskrit term Bishu which means to ask blessings and prosperity from the Gods during the harvesting season. Assam celebrates three kinds of Bihu: Bohaag Bihu or Rongali Bihu (mid-April), Magh or Bhogali Bihu (mid-January), Kati or Kongaali Bihu (mid-October). All three Bihu have their own purpose and significance.

KOKRAJHAR: In a goodwill gesture towards the underprivileged women vendors, especially the orange vendors on the roadside on the way to Kokrajhar, the official assistants of the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro on Tuesday distributed big umbrellas to women vendors of oranges at National Highway-31, Karigaon in Kokrajhar. Each umbrella had Welcome to Kokrajhar, the City of Peace written on it.
Sources said that as many as 32 large umbrellas were distributed among orange vendors at Karigaon in the first phase. Similar distribution will be done within four days to women vendors in other areas.
