of any possible plea offers. and frankly, i don t believe that the officers would take any pleas because they believe they act the reasonably considering all the circumstances. at least one member of that jury agreed that officer porter acted reasonably and wouldn t convict him. big picture now. just got wrord from tword from baltimore sun that morning marked the 330th homicide in baltimore. the crime rate has skyskyrocket. is there a feeling that there has been so much focus on fredky gray at the expense of the rest of baltimore and its public safety is this. i believe that there is. and if you look at the resources that the mosby administration has porn into this case, expert witnesses, paying expert fees, that is unheard of. there were cases that i would beg and plead to just have the evidence that we did have
officer porter s testimony. he was one of the officers involved in the transport of freddie gray, but not necessarily charged with the most serious of the crimes. but in court, you have a situation where folks were saying that the prosecutors saying that william porter is a liar, he s lied to you. how all of a sudden could you use his testimony or any of his statements in any of the next trials? prosecutors are allowed to say one person has lied in one trial and then put them on as a witness in the next. the key to officer porter s testimony was that he said that mr. gray asked for help. and that is really pivotal to the prosecution s theory of the case, which is that the officers were aware that he needed help and then they failed to assist him. is this a case where marilyn mo mosby so overcharged these crimes that the jury gets
at the end. at the end, okay. they were philosophical about it. what they want is justice. because they re a unique family, they ve sent out the message to the community repeatedly, take this with peace, take this with grace. because everybody s working hard to bring about justice. and their definition of justice is simply a fair trial, where all of the evidence came out, and the judge acted properly and the jury was properly selected and the verdict was the result. the only frustration is there was no verdict. they re not telling anybody what verdict they want. because they believe that s wrong. they believe that that s prejudging rather than judging. as a former prosecutor, let s talk about how difficult a hill this was and is to climb for the prosecution. as mark just said, they have to prove, in the case of officer porter, that he had some evil intent toward freddie gray. in fact, when the jurors were
getting out there demanding a conviction. they are not on the jury. they don t go to the trial. they don t know what they are talking about. i certainly don t know whether officer porter is guilty or not. and i m following this as a journalist. and i have no blanking clue whether the man is guilty. is this immoral? are these protesters umpl>9ñ moral for commanding a conviction in a case they really don t know anything about? well, first of all, before i answer that bill, i m sure you are equally disturbed that the police union and otherc[q the white community havewi command demanded these charges be dropped because they take the exact opposite position that porter is innocent. that s what a union is in business to do. they are not on the streets disrupting. not just the union, bill. it s not just the union. i think there is a difference. i don t think you can make a comparison. these protesters are saying the country is bad, the system is bad. everything is corrupt. the union
it s always up to a particular jury. in this case we have every indication that the jury took its time, they looked through the evidence, they analyzed the testimony and the exhibits and were unable to reach a verdict. the prosecution indicated they wanted to use officer porter as a witness in officer goodson s trial further down the road. how do you think what happened today complicates that or doesn t? at this point officer porter doesn t he can t be compelled to testify in anyone s trial at this point. he does have a fifth. so at this point he can t be compelled to testify in the next trial. so the state can t force him to be a witness against any of the other officers at this point right now. it s up to him. it s up to the particular officer. my question would be what was your advice to the family, who i m sure is looking for resolution. this is a marathon, given that there are going to be six trials and if you count the hung, seven. what was your advice to the
