The crime report for the first week of the new year has been released, and it shows that in Fairfield County, police received a total of 270 crime cases. 179 of them were listed as ‘Other’. 27 cases of theft were reported. There were 19 reports of a ‘Suspicious Situation,’ and there were 15 disturbances, 9 assaults, and 6 cases of vandalism. Burglaries totaled 4 cases and there was one single instance of trespass.
An employee of a Connecticut bank is now accused of ripping off customer accounts. Connecticut State Police say while he worked at Webster Bank in Kent, 44 year old Aaron Parsons stole more than $100,000 from accounts belonging to older customers by illegally withdrawing the money from their accounts and then transferring it to his personal accounts. Parsons was taken into custody and is now facing felony charges including first-degree larceny. Police say the affected clients have been reimbursed for the unauthorized withdrawals. For now, Parsons is free on a $25,000 bond.
Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves has announced the formation of The Mayor’s Community Advisory Committee, which will be composed of a diverse group of residents from throughout Danbury. The committee will focus on providing insight and input into existing challenges, recommending policies, and programs, and strengthening partnerships throughout the city. If you think you can zip through construction zones where you don’t see a police car and get away with it, think again. The new speed camera program here in Connecticut taught nearly 25,000 drivers that it’s not a good idea. While many of them received written warnings, more than 700 were fined at least $75. The statistics point to the pilot program which aims to get drivers to slow down in work zones. The Department of Transportation placed cameras from April through December at three major projects, and they say they plan to do it again soon.
A pedestrian is dead after attempting to cross Route 7 near New Milford High School. Police have not yet released the identity of the man who died in the incident that happened around 6:45pm Thursday in the southbound lanes of the highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. So far, no information has been released pertaining to the vehicle that hit him.
