A leading doctor at Seattle Children s Odessa Brown clinic has resigned after experiencing racism at the clinic toward patients and colleagues.
SEATTLE - A leading doctor at Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, Seattle Children’s Hospital only primary care clinic, has resigned due to institutionalized racism at the clinic.
Dr. Ben Danielson, was a senior medical director at Odessa Brown for nearly 20 years. Danielson is also a holder of the Janet and Jim Sinegal Endowed Chair and founder of Washington Medical-Legal Partnership.

For Seattle-area families who relied upon Dr. Ben Danielson, the medical director of the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, the grief over his resignation is twofold: They lost a trusted pediatrician and advocate, and the reason he left is painful.
Danielson resigned in November, citing institutional racism at Seattle Children’s hospital, he said Thursday. The clinic, which primarily serves families of color and low-income families, is part of the hospital system.

No one thing led Dr. Ben Danielson, the beloved medical director of the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, to leave his post of more than 20 years last month. Rather, it was a collection of moments that, when added together, gave him little faith that leadership at Seattle Children’s Hospital of which Odessa Brown is a part cared about staff or patients of color.
