We like things fast and conveniently wrapped. We want the drive-thru, CliffsNotes version of the Wentz deal. “Just get the damn thing done already, Howie. I’ll get the details from (Jimmy Kempski’s) Twitter.”
Too many people have bought into the ridiculous notion that the Eagles were leveraging Wentz and/or the want of a first-rounder in return. If you believe those things, it’s much easier for you to now believe the team lost some sort of leverage. But it actually seems like they never had it.
Interestingly, both these teams truly have a firm grasp of who the soon-to-be former Eagles QB is happens to be. The Colts have former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who was able to get the best out of Wentz and reportedly has a strong relationship with the QB. The Bears have QB coach John DiFilippo, who also helped get the best out of Wentz, but also reportedly coached him “too hard.” That is a huge indicator to me, as it appears it’s getting closer and closer to

The only stellar defense they faced in those six games was the 49ers, and for a while the 49ers had the Chiefs number. But once the Chiefs figured them out, they exploded in the fourth quarter and turned what was looking like another colossal Reid disappointment into an 11-point win. They just seem impossible to keep down for a full 60 minutes.
I m not going to overthink this. The Bucs are obviously a very good team, with a legitimate defense, and a lot of good players on offense. And yet, they re kind of an average Super Bowl participant, even with Tom Brady at quarterback. Ultimately, unless the Bucs are somehow able to knock Mahomes out of the game, the Chiefs offense just feels unstoppable.
He did it, folks. Embiid not only lived up to the off-season promises made following his team’s exit from the bubble, but also raised the play of everyone around him. He said something about getting better, about making the team better, and lived up to all of it. That is something that should always be applauded in any sport.
Embiid established something else in this early season of domination in the NBA; he’s now the most important athlete in the entire city of Philadelphia. Protect this man at all costs.
This is no knock on Carter Hart, Bryce Harper or Carson Wen- just kidding. It s not about anyone specific. It’s more the nature of what’s going on here. Some of it is simply how the NBA works. We know you need your MVP, your best scorer and most dominant player to lead you to glory. As great as Tobias Harris is playing, the Sixers won’t make it to the conference finals without a healthy Embiid.
Maxwell was scheduled to count for $9.7 million on the Eagles salary cap that season. They saved $4.9 million by trading him for literally anything. The 2021 Eagles would kill for that to be their worst contract.
In December, OverTheCap.com put out a list of the 25 worst contracts in the NFL. Carson Wentz came in at No. 9, and they deemed Alshon Jeffery s contract to be the worst in the NFL.
Beyond those two well-documented players contracts, if I were to count the number of contracts that the Eagles would probably prefer to just be free and clear of, with no penalties, but they don t have that option, you could come up with quite a list. I ll give it a go:
Brandon Brooks
As you re all aware, Brooks ruptured his Achilles during the summer and missed the entire 2020 season. It was his third major injury in an 18-month span:
January 13, 2019: In the Eagles divisional round loss to the Saints, Brooks tore his right Achilles.
December 29, 2019: Brooks suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the Eagles NFC East-clinching Week 17 win over the Giants that required surgery.
June, 2020: Brooks tore his left Achilles.
Brooks was able to return from his first torn Achilles in time for the start of the 2019 regular season, an extremely impressive feat for a 340-pound man. He has also stayed in shape, and then some, since his injury. I mean:
