don t know. there is no specific procedure on this. i think the better argument is everyone is on their own, because the law is designed to protect federal officials, not random co-defendants who happen to be charged along with them. let s talk about one of the defendants who wants a very speedy trial, two months. this is, by the way, not a typo. october of 2023, less than two months from now. this is a kenneth chesebro. really important development. under georgia law, if you are a defendant and you insist on a speedy trial, speedy trial belongs to the defendant, you must be tried by the end of the next court term, which here means before november. kenneth chesebro said i want my speedy trial. fani willis said, fine, we ll see your speedy trial, we ll see you october 23rd and the judge said, okay, that s when we ll do your trial. fani willis said, in fact, i ll try all 19 of you on october 23rd, but me just say, that s not happening. they have a right to contest that. exactly
moves in their best interest and not necessarily together. today, we also saw sidney powell, one of those attorneys working with donald trump in the aftermath of the 2020 election say that she wants a speedy trial in the fulton county superior court. another one of these defendants, ken chaz roe, previously told the judge that. he had his court date set for october of 2023. the judge, though, made clear he was setting that for chaz roe, not everyone.we will see what he does for this. sara, i mentioned the next major hearing in this case monday. tell us what we expect to see them. reporter: this is going to be interesting, because it s an evidentiary hearing for mike meadows to try to move his case to federal court he s also asked the federal court to just dismiss all the charges against him. so, we ve seen people work flying ahead of this area, and we ve seen the district attorney s office lining up potential witnesses that they could call as part of the case that they want to make
this in georgia, he wanted a speedy trial and the judge said okay, we could get the ball rolling. we could move ahead in october 2023. one of the things that the judge said in this order, though, is at this time, these deadlines do not apply to any co-defendant. making clear that he s going to set this trial date, but for ken cheesebro only. now within the last hour or two, we also saw sidney powell, another one of the attorneys who was working with donald trump in the aftermath of the election, again, going to court and say she also would like a speedy trial. so we re waiting for the judge to weigh in on that the timeline for her. this calls into question what the timeline is going to be for all of the rest of the defendants in this case. the d.a. said we re ready to go. we could bring everyone to trial in october of 2023. a time line other attorneys have thought was unrealistic and we ve seen trump s team say they don t think that is realistic and they don t want to go with that date
trump legal operation and the trump political operation. let s look at the trials that we know of. one being in october of 2023. that s the first one. this is the trump company civil fraud suit. this is brought by new york attorney general. then january 15th, e. jean carroll defamation trial. january 29th, a federal class action suit that accuses trump and his company of promoting a pyramid scheme. and then march 25, 2024, a trial in that alleged hush money scheme. again, all of these being critical moments. the one thing to note is that we don t know which of these trump will have to appear at. but, again, it goes to show you that these things cannot be separated. as we reported earlier this week, that is part of the trump playbook. they want to be running on his legal issues. this is tricky. if i m a presidential candidate, i don t want to be dealing with filing my taxes. i m going to outsource everything that i can during this season. jeff, this just speaks to all of this hanging
