what without telling us all the details, are there others like you who are concerned that it s getting a little hot out there with the obamacare discussion? well, i can tell you this. i ve done over 100 town hall meetings throughout the entire lifespan of both the tea party and the occupy wall street movement. this was the first time the police department determined that for security reasons, i needed to be physically escorted out of the venue. and we ve seen violence erupt recently in berkeley. it is a situation where emotions are running high, and unfortunately, a lot of americans have stopped talking with each other about our disputes and started shouting at each other. and that causes a breakdown of the fundamental institutions that guide our democracy. how do you find a balance between either your maeessagingr security needs so you can continue to talk to your constituents and hearing something that comes out of
it even harder. now we can wimper, we can whine, or are we can fight back. me, i m here to fight back! are these are both very progressive liberal senators speaking out right now. but they re going to generate a lot of support out there. based on what we re already seeing. and so the question is, and mark raised this just a few minutes ago. is this going to be another occupy wall street movement? or is this the next tea party where they can really channel this enthusiasm into gains in the senate and house? in 2018. but i think what we heard from elizabeth warren signals what we could expect to hear from democrats moving forward. which is this appeal to the working class, appeal to average americans, appeal to americans that republicans are not looking out for the everyman like donald trump said he would. donald trump promised this sort of populism and nationalism in his campaign. he promised to lift up the forgotten american. and so if democrats can point
politics. what do you hope came out of that meeting? what do you know? i think like all democrats, de blasio is circling donald trump and the new trump administration with great deep skepticism but also intrigue. skepticism because of the appointments that we re seeing like steve bannon. that s a lot of concern that what has been a fringe movement is going to be accepted into the mainstream bloodstream of the republican party with this but also intrigue in that many democrats and you see this on capitol hill, too, brooke, many democrats republican that donald trump one time was a democrat. they remember the campaign pledges he s made, for example on putting a big invest sboomt infrastructure that they believe can help working class vocational to they are feeling him out to see if despite these grave reservations that they have on the cultural racial issues that there aren t areas where they can work together on economic issues and also in terms of immigration.
election. i m not one of those. i m saying don t forget how he won. don t forget who he is because he s a dangerous man to be in the white house. what do you make, then, of the protesters across the country? there are students walking out of universities as we speak but the majority of the protesters arrested in oregon didn t vote. didn t vote. do they have a right to be protesting then? sure they have a right to be protesting. i don t like the fact they don t vote. young people have very low voter participation. i think the same thing was true during the vietnam war. a lot of young people protested but didn t vote because they still feel they have a stake in society, they still feel this is their country and they have a right to protest. i think this could be the beginning of kind of a rolling demonstration, demonstrations will continue as an aggregation of the black lives matter movement, the occupy wall street movement and a kind of disgust at trump. trump turned to the camera
