oh, my god, the election is over. ronald reagan made people feel good about america. that s what america is looking for. megyn: under that logic this new mourning in america ad won t work because it s making us feel bad. it puts the blame on president obama and urges people to vote republican in november and makes us feel depressed about the state of the country. should they be offering an ad that talks about how they are going to lift the country up? with this ad which is the national ad, this is where we are. the reagan ad is where we are going. it s up to the candidates, it s up to the o donnells and sharron angle, it s, up to them to tell people how they will make people feel good about america again. the new candidates are standing
voting booth and be able to vote for him. so it s a challenge of transferring this new enthusiasm, but i also think indicating what the alternative is. the alternative is the o donnells, the rahm pauls, the sharon rangels, the rahm pauls who talk about repeeling important provisions of the civil rights act. you just handed me jobs, the state of black america. you have all these political insiders who say this is an election about jobs. if you re looking at black unemployment that is more than 16%, then why isn t this driving people and committing them now, something for their campaigns and promising them on election days they re going to be at the polls? i think the challenge for the president and his team is to articulate what the alternative would be. he s worked hard on jobs, he s worked hard on job creation, but what is the alternative agenda
then they went down to sea level and got in the national park service boat and tooled around the harbor, before the fog, which i gather is something they frequently see, started to roll in. in between they stopped for ice cream. we do expect to see them again today out and about, perhaps bicycling or hiking. it s a nice spot. the town here has rolled out the red carpet, signs all around town welcoming the obamas. and the lobster is not too bad either. there s a lot of it, i have to tell you. the vanderbilts and rockefellers and o donnells, all sort of mentioned in one place together. reporter: exactly. mike, let me ask you about sort of the substance of this week for the white house. it seems the president, whenever they try to go on quote, unquote, vacation, there have been times when the president has had to deal with international crises and crises at home. but this was a big week for the president, not only with the news in the gulf but also financial reform, right?
