Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is pushing the blame on political violence that erupted on Sunday in Nsanje central to the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Kunkuyu: DPP to blame
Six people were seriously injured when MCP and DPP supporters were engaged in political violence in the area ahead of the highly contested March 30 by-election.
MCP campaign director Moses Kunkuyu made the remarks yesterday when he cheered the victims who were admitted to Nsanje District Hospital.
He said he learnt the development with shock, considering that people have different freedoms, including that of association.
He has therefore encouraged MCP supporters to continue working towards building their party.
A magistrate in Dowa has sent a 19-year-old boy to jail for 12 months for escaping lawful police custody.
State prosecutor, Sergeant Joseph Banda, told the court that, in December last year, the boy escaped from police cells after arrest for allegedly insulting a police officer on duty.
The convict, Gift Phiri, comes from Thembwe Village TA Mkukula in Dowa district.
In a related development, at least 10 suspects have escaped form Nsanje Police last night as reported by Superintendent John Timbenao of Nsanje Police.
According to Timbenao, the suspects were among 21 other suspects who were being kept at the police station.
A 15-year-old girl has died after committing suicide in Nsanje on the afternoon of Friday, leaving relatives and the village in shock.
Nsanje police Spokesperson Agness Zalakoma said Fatima Mpomba committed suicide at Hassan Village in the District.
Zalakoma said the girl sat for 2020 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination and she was waiting for the results.
“It was on Friday, December 11 2020 when the deceased woke up from her bedroom as usual and performed all what she was supposed to do until in the afternoon when she had a meal” she said.
She said at about 4 O’Clock afternoon the deceased’s mother left the house for the market and left the deceased together with her young sister and brother at home.

Nsanje police Spokesperson Sub Inspector Agness Zalakoma has identified the deceased, as Fatima Mpomba and committed suicide at Hassan Village in the District.
Zalakoma said that on Saturday that the deceased sat for 2020 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination and she was waiting for the results.
