Latest official data shows that 165 people were killed on Scotland’s roads in 2019, a reduction of 43%, while 2,016 people were seriously injured. The road safety framework targets a 50% reduction in people killed and a 50% reduction in people seriously injured by 2030. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) figures suggest that in 2018-19, driving accounted for 18 of the 29 work-related deaths in Scotland, making driving the most dangerous work activity. The framework says that it must “strive for a future where no one is killed while driving/riding for work”.

The Vision Zero Partnership consists of: Peterborough City Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, office of the police and crime commissioner, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, Highways England, The Road Victims Trust, Magpas Air Ambulance, The Major Trauma Centre – Addenbrooke s, and Public Health. Presenting their report to members of Fenland District Council overview and scrutiny panel at their online meeting (February 8), the ‘Vision Zero’ Partnership says no human being should be killed or seriously injured as the result of a road collision.
