Philippe Jost, successor to General Jean-Louis Georgelin who oversaw the reconstruction of Notre-Dame-de-Paris Cathedral, gave his first speech since his appointment last week. He assured on France that the reopening of the cathedral, ravaged by a gigantic fire in 2019, was still scheduled for December 2024. The spire, a "masterpiece of wooden framing", will rise up to 100 meters in height and will be visible "late 2023", he said. He also anticipated that the spire should be visible on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, which is to take place on the Seine.
