Boy, 3, dies in fiery crash in Plantation
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Plantation Police Department detectives were still investigating a single-vehicle crash Thursday night when a grieving grandmother identified the 3-year-old victim as James Rocco Oizan Chapón.
Maria Cid said her 25-year-old daughter Yasmin Cid was having a disagreement with her boyfriend Ryan Yates when he grabbed James and drove away with him in her black 2014 Mercedes-Benz.
According to Cid, Yasmin Cid tried to open the door to get James out of the car. It was the last time she saw James alive. Yates crashed the car on North University Drive near Northwest Fifth Street.
11:37 a.m. â A disturbance was reported on South Highway 395.
12:12 p.m. â A stolen vehicle was recovered on Southwest Ninth Street.
12:39 p.m. â An armed subject was reported on East Highland Avenue.
1:01 p.m. â A burglary was reported on East Beech Avenue.
2:02 p.m. â A domestic disturbance was reported on Southwest Seventh Street.
3:06 p.m. â A domestic disturbance was reported on Carter Drive.
3:30 p.m. â A fight was reported on Southwest Ninth Street.
Wednesday, May 12
1:34 p.m. â A fight was reported at McKenzie Park.
3:46 p.m. â Unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle was reported on East Main Street.
5:49 p.m. â A motor vehicle accident was reported on South Highway 395.
Sheriff s deputies observed a hand-to-hand drug transaction near North 16th and North A streets, according to an affidavit of probable cause, and followed the pickup truck that had been involved. When a traffic stop was attempted, the pickup accelerated away and led the chase.
Three people fled from inside the pickup truck after its crash, the affidavit said. Aslinger was apprehended by sheriff s K-9 Agar after he jumped a fence in the area of North West M and North West Fifth streets.
