After seeing no official hockey games played at the Olympic Center for more than 10 months, those words can ring out again this weekend as the National Women’s Hockey League begins a condensed two-week season in Lake Placid. The cornoravirus pandemic forced the fabled arena to abruptly shut down early in March last year after a Can-Am Hockey tournament ended, and hockey is now returning in a big way as the six-team NWHL will hold 24 games in a span of two weeks at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. The games will take played in a “bubble” with no fans present.

Mark Poloncarz (D-New York) the Executive of Erie County, was caught on video playing hockey with over a dozen others at local rink after his Health Department had shut down another rink nearby for hosting scrimmages.
Stefan Mychajliw, the Republican Erie County Comptroller, posted a video showing Poloncarz (seen in all black) with as many as fourteen other people on the ice.

WBFO s Mike Desmond reports
Mychajliw said video images taken over the weekend at a local ice rink show Poloncarz was playing hockey in violation of state COVID rules. There have been a lot of virus cases among local hockey players. Here s full video. Northtown Center. Dec. 27th. Downloaded from video service Live Barn, Mychajliw said in a tweet. Poloncarz: I skated on the ice BEFORE others skated. Stated all he did was shoot by myself and then left. False. If he can play, so too should kids/youth leagues.
The county executive said Monday there are problems with the video, including that it was shot in November. Poloncarz said it is part of a vicious campaign against him and aides.

Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw is once again pointing fingers at Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz when it comes to following the stateâs COVID-19 guidelines.
Mychajliw took to social media on Monday, and shared a video he said he received from a whistle-blower of Poloncarz leaving Northtown Center ice rink in Amherst with a bag and hockey stick in hand on December 27.
Ali Touhey: why does the video matter?
Mychajliw: I think itâs the hypocrisy of shutting down Holiday Twin Rinks, of not letting children play youth sports, and yet he and his so called friends or mates are allowed to get together on Sundays and scrimmage or play hockey.
