and john morales, hurricane specialist from southern florida. i start with john. what s the very latest? reporter: the very latest is the center of this major hurricane now with 125 mile per hour winds is emerging off the north coast of cuba and heaing into the southeastern gulf of mexico at this very minute. it is expected to continue on a northbound track, but then take the northeast turn ever of so gradually so that, yeah, anywhere from tampa to fort new york yers, that looks to be the area where the most likely landfall would occur. that means that for really the entire state of florida, there s going to be inclement weather that s already happening and will continue to go downhill pretty much for the entire state with a possible exception of the western panhandle in places like pensacola have less of a risk. but several inches of rain have already accumulated. there s a risk of 24 inches of
others are going to take a tremendous amount of work to get to the bottom of. something else that i m sure that will be in the lawyer s mind this amtrak employee filed a lawsuit. within the lawsuit are these allegations. amtrak failed to provide sufficient personnel to safely operate the train. also inside that lawsuit, there weren t proper systems in place to slow the train. will that add into whatever charges are filed against this engineer? obviously positive train control is something that s at the heart of the issue. you have negligence here. who and exactly where to pin it is really the issue. there s no question that amtrak is at fault here. either they could have and should have had the positive train control in effect. to find out yesterday that it was on the southbound track and not on the northbound track and coupling that with the metro
reporter: he collapsed onto the northbound track. his seeing eye either jumped or fell right in after him. he was at the edge backwards and the dog was trying to pull him in. when he was falling down to the track, and his dog fell down with him as well, and everyone started freaking out. reporter: witnesses told williams to lie down between the rails, not to try to climb back onto the platform. others frantically waved to keep the train from running him over but the train operator could not stop in time and a couple of cars passed right over him and his dog. it must have been a lucky day for him. reporter: amazingly williams was admitted to the hospital for i only minor cuts to his head and orlando emerged unscathed. he was semicoherent. he asked us how his dog was doing. we told him that his dog was fine. reporter: the service dog stuck by his master s side at the hospital all day, then went home with williams grateful girlfriend, and later seemed
train that went off the rails on the northbound track, just a little ways from where this train cashed today, metro north saying the two incidents are unrelated. are you prepared to say these two incidents are unrelated? caller: i think we need to take a look at each accident, each event, and identify what the facts are before we reach any conclusions. so at this point, we want to look at this event at what occurr occurred, how it occurred, why it occurred. we re certainly aware of the train that derailed in july. we will be taking a close look at that. there has been a lot of work that has taken place in this area since that derailment. so we will want to understand in detail what happened this morning to result in this catastrophic event. whether you say lots of work in that area, you mean as a result of the crash or were they just undergoing repairs that you were aware of? caller: well, we held a two
