New Bill Aims to Legalize Marijuana in North Carolina
N.C. Rep. John Autry of Charlotte was one of four North Carolina legislators to introduce HB 617 a bill to legalize and regulate the sale, possession, and use of cannabis in North Carolina in the General Assembly this week.
As written, HB 617 will:
Establish the creation of the Office of Social Equity to conduct community reinvestment and repair, social equity, cannabis education and technical assistance activities.
Make legal the use, possession, and cultivation of up to 12 cannabis plants for persons 21 or older for personal use.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a homicide after one person was fatally shot in east Charlotte Sunday evening.
Officers were dispatched to North Sharon Amity Road, off of Albemarle Road, around 8 p.m. after reports of a person being shot in the area. Upon arrival, officers located a victim in the road who had been shot.
MEDIC pronounced the victim, identified as 46-year-old Jonathan Leonard McCorkle, died at the scene.
This is an ongoing, active investigation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a truck crashed into an apartment building in east Charlotte.
CMPD responded to the 3700 block of North Sharon Amity Road at 5:41 p.m. Sunday. Three people were injured in the crash, though CMPD did not confirm if those injured were in the vehicle or the apartment.
One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and an additional two people were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
At this time, the details surrounding the crash have not been made public. It s not yet known if any charges will be filed connected to the incident.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following a fatal crash in east Charlotte, The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reports.
According to police, the crash happened Wednesday evening near the 3900 block of North Sharon Amity Road.
Police said when they arrived on the scene, they located a 2005 GMC Yukon, 2003 Mitsubishi Galant and 2014 Ford Focus, all of which had been involved in the collision.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a deadly crash Wednesday in east Charlotte.
The crash involved at least three vehicles and happened just after 6 p.m. on North Sharon Amity Road near Wilora Lake Road.
The victim in this crash has been identified as 32-year-old Ingrid Freiheit.
