McKinley Wright IV preparing for NBA Draft

From the moment McKinley Wright IV began his college basketball career for the University of Colorado in 2017 to his final game in March, he proved himself as one of the best players in the Pac-12. Now with a lengthy resume, the 22-year-old is preparing for the 2021 NBA Draft on July 29.
ESPN ranked Wright as the 57th best available player with less than a month remaining until the draft. Wright’s now-former head coach, Tad Boyle, said he has kept in contact with Wright, who is working out in Phoenix.

Colorado Buffaloes’ senior point guard McKinley Wright IV pointed to junior forward Evan Battey with a smile after notching his first assist of the game against California on Thursday afternoon. Wright IV’s assist to Battey in the opening minutes broke Jay Humphries’ previous school record of 562 assists. The senior from North Robbinsdale, Minnesota came into the contest averaging just over five dimes per game and career assist number 563 for Wright will help cement his legacy as one of the best to ever come through the program.

McKinley Wright IV was named the Pac-12 Conference Men s Basketball Player of the Week, for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday.
Wright becomes the first Colorado men s basketball player to win four conference Player of the Week honors during his career; he had been tied at three with Chauncey Billups and Askia Booker. Wright is the third player in the Pac-12 era to earn two Player of the Week honors in one season, joining Josh Scott (2015-16) and Askia Booker (2013-14).
A native of North Robbinsdale, Minn., Wright scored 21 points and dished out seven assists in Colorado s lone game last week, a 74-64 triumph over Grand Canyon at the Far West Classic in Las Vegas. He made 8 of 14 from the floor and 4 of 5 from the free throw line to help the Buffaloes to their fourth-straight win.
