It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of Dr. Bernie Taylor, M.D. at his home near North Platte, surrounded by family and friends on May 5, 2021 at the age of 67.
He was born Nov. 11, 1929 on a farm near Smith Center, Kan. and moved to Falls City as a small child. It was there he met the love of his life, Jane. They were married on Aug. 9, 1953.
Dr. Taylor graduated in 1957 from University of Nebraska Medical School. After medical school, he went on to specialize in obstetrics – gynecology and he became the first OB/GYN west of Grand Island. He had a practice in North Platte for over 35 years and delivered many thousands of babies. Bernie had astute diagnostic skills and practiced impeccable ethical and moral standards.
It remains to be seen whether North Platte will face a major spike in housing demand from a possible beef processing plant.
Even if it does, the few folks who remember World War II might say, âHousing shortage? Well, let me tell you â¦â
After the war ended on Sept. 2, 1945, North Platte, Nebraska and the nation despaired over where to house their returning service members.
Even without a major war industry, the hometown of the World War II Canteen had to take extraordinary measures to accommodate those wanting to live here.
One was North Platteâs first trailer park, housing veterans and their families on city-leased land in shelters once part of the pursuit of the warâs greatest secret weapon.
