(AP) The BisMan Community Food Cooperative had a ceremony recently celebrating five years of providing local food to the area, but financial issues put a damper on the food, live music and other festivities, General Manager Shirley Reese said. “It should be a time of absolute celebration but we have to think through how we’re going to get through another five years,” she said. “It’s a reality check for every member owner. Do we want to see this continue for another five years or do we want to say there are no more food co-ops in North Dakota?”

(AP) Less than a month after the North Dakota Legislature adjourned, a group of lawmakers will return to the Capitol next week to decide study topics that may result in legislation for the 2023 session. The Legislative Management committee, a 17-member panel of lawmakers that supervises business between sessions, will meet May 19 to select the topics the Legislature will study during the next 18 months. The committee will meet again on June 9 to assign the subjects to study committees. Each of the Legislature’s 141 members will be surveyed on committee preferences.

(AP) Nora Unruh felt a sense of relief when she was vaccinated for COVID-19. But it didn’t bring back memories about getting her polio shot at the first vaccine clinic in Bismarck six decades ago. “That’s probably a good thing,” the 72-year-old Basin Electric retiree and grandmother of two said, laughing. The front page of The Bismarck Tribune from June 9, 1955, recounts her shot that day at the World War Memorial Building: “Six-year-old Nora Jeanne Bohrer . was a somewhat reluctant first youngster through the line, but she soon wiped her tears away.” (“Oh, for cute,” she said after hearing the story.)
