One of the youngest members to serve on the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association’s council, Norfolk farmer Alan Alston has died aged 85.
He was just 24 when he was elected to the ruling council in 1959 and went on to serve through six decades.
Alan Lang Alston, who stewarded at the Royal Norfolk Show for half-a-century, began his long association shortly after the RNAA opened the permanent Costessey showground in 1954.
Norfolk, Virginia teacher exposes unsafe conditions as schools reopen
In accordance with guidelines from Virginia’s Democratic Governor Ralph Northam, public schools in Norfolk reopened their doors to elementary students on Monday, March 15. Middle school students in the Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) are set to resume in-person learning on April 12, followed by high school students on April 26.

The reopening plan implements a hybrid model and divides all classes into Group A and Group B in an effort to keep no more than 10 students in the classroom at once. Every week each group attends two days of in-person and two days online classes, while educators will have to simultaneously teach in-person and remote lessons.

NORFOLK, Va. On Wednesday, the Norfolk School Board unanimously voted to approve an updated, hybrid plan for a return to in-person learning.
Division officials will start phasing students back inside the classroom on March 15, almost a year to the date after they were sent home.
“The health and wellbeing of our students is paramount,” said Norfolk Superintendent Dr. Sharon Byrdsong.

It was formed more than a a century ago to bring women together.
And in a bid to reduce isolation during lockdown and attract more people to the Women s Institute (WI), the Norfolk Federation of WIs is hosting a virtual get-together on Monday, February 15 at 7.30pm.
It will feature a talk by Siobhan Clarke, an Historic Royal Palaces lecturer who specialises in 16th century fashion and question and answer session with the expert.
The online Zoom session is part of trial events hosted by Norfolk Federation of WIs, formed 102 years ago, and any woman aged 18 and over can to take part.
