to engage indent mays in full coordination with our allies and partners, we are equally prepared for other scenarios. the u.s. and allies have been preparing possible sanctions against russia if they move forward with an invasion, and the u.s. has also reiterated possibly increasing support to ukraine to defend itself. now the white house says that they do not believe president biden has president putin has made that final decision on whether to invade ukraine, but what they are seeing on the ground does not tend to show efforts toward deescalation. now president biden intends to stay in contact with russia in the days forward, but the white house is saying there is a very distinct possibility that russia may act militarily anyways. what is the latest on getting americans out of ukraine? reporter: well, the u.s. has ordered a drawdown of most nonemergency personnel at the u.s. embassy in kyiv.
russia continues the buildup, and surrounds ukraine on three sides, and today, the u.s. is ordering all nonemergency u.s. personnel out of kyiv. and also all of the nonmilitary soldiers who had been in the country for training the out of the country. and now, what more are you learning about this call? well, fred, a u.s. official says that there is no fundamental change in the dynamic brewing between russia and ukraine in that phone call between biden and vladimir putin, and they have acknowledged that it is still possible that russia may decide to take military action in the country. this is coming that there is heightened concern over the course of the last 36 hours about russia s intentions and actions when it is coming to ukraine. the president spoke with putin for roughly an hour from the presidential retreat at camp david, and the white house
released a readout of that meeting saying that the president stressed that there is going to be severe cost and consequences that russia would face from the u.s. and allies if it moves forward with the invasion. i want to read another portion from the statement that says that president biden said that further invasion of ukraine would impose widespread human suffer and diminish russia s standing. while the president is prepared to continue to engage with diplomacy, we are equally prepared with other scenarios. yesterday, president biden spoke with european counterparts and allies about the evolving situation with russia and ukraine and we know that the u.s. is working with allies on sanctions to impose on russia should it move forward the invasion, and the u.s. is taking steps to protect american interest, and drawing down most of the staff, and nonemergency staff at the u.s. embassy in
