Sayed Madadi is a Non-Resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute. His work focuses on the political economy of governance and conflict, climate change and green development. He was previously a Reagan-Fascell Fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy and a Research Scholar at the Center for Governance and Markets. Before that, he led the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Afghanistan peace negotiations in Doha, Qatar, and was Director of the Afghanistan Civil Service Institute in Kabul.
Andrew Scott Cooper, PhD, is a Non-Resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute. He specializes in US national security and petroleum policy towards the region since the Second World War, the history of modern Iran, and Middle East monarchies and kingship. He is the author of two history books and teaches as an Adjunct Professor at International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki, Greece. He has lectured widely to audiences at a variety of venues including American presidential libraries, the US State Department, and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Dr. Nathan P. Jones is an Associate Professor of Security Studies at Sam Houston State University and a Non-resident Scholar for Rice University’s Baker Institute in Drug Policy and Mexico Studies; he previously was an Alfred C. Glassell III Postdoctoral Fellow in Drug Policy at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy.
