Smith, Sills Double Up; Lead Arkansas Past ORU

Mike Cawood December 20, 2020 FAYETTEVILLE – For the first time this season, Arkansas trailed at halftime (40-30) but it out-scored Oral Roberts 57-36 in the second half to secure an 87-76 victory Sunday afternoon at Bud Walton Arena. Justin Smith and Desi Sills each posted double-doubles in the win and each had career highs in rebounds. Smith led all players with 22 points – two shy of his career high – and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. Smith hauled in 10 offensive rebounds as the Razorbacks had 24 offensive boards and out-rebounded the Golden Eagles, 58-32, overall. Smith posted his fifth career double-double – first as a Razorback – and his 17 boards is the most by a Razorback since Mike Washington had 18 versus Florida in the 2009 SEC Tournament. Smith is the first Razorback with at least 10 offensive rebounds since Bobby Portis had 10 versus LSU (March 7, 2015).

MBB Preview: Arkansas-Oral Roberts

FAYETTEVILLE – After a week off due to final exams, Arkansas returns to the hardwood and will host Oral Roberts on Sunday (Dec. 20). Tipoff is set for 1 pm and the game will be telecast on SEC Network. This will be the 13th all-time meeting between Arkansas and Oral Roberts. The Razorbacks own a 10-2 advantage in the series, including a 7-0 mark in Fayetteville. Oral Roberts, picked second in the Summit League preseason poll, is the fourth of five Razorback non-conference opponents that were picked first or second in their league this preseason. The fifth school on the list will be Tuesday when Arkansas hosts Abilene Christian – preseason #@, defending league champion and among those receiving votes for the top 25 each of the last two weeks.

Razorbacks Overcome Slow Start, Beat UCA 100-75

Mike Cawood December 12, 2020 FAYETTEVILLE – Jalen Tate and JD Notae each scored their 1,000th career points to lead Arkansas to a 100-75 victory over Central Arkansas Saturday night at Bud Walton Arena. This was the first meeting between Arkansas and Central Arkansas since the 1946-47 season. The Razorbacks are now 7-0 all-time versus the Bears, including a 4-0 record in games played in Fayetteville. The series dates back to Arkansas’ first season of basketball (1923-24). Prior to tonight’s game, the last time Arkansas hosted an in-state school for a regular-season game was Nov. 28, 1950, versus Arkansas Tech. (Razorbacks won 50-45) Tate, a graduate transfer from Northern Kentucky, also tallied his third career double-double, getting 17 points and a career-high 11 assists. MBB Preview: Arkansas-UCA / Now on SEC Network Alternate

FAYETTEVILLE – For the first time since the 1946-47 season, Arkansas will play Central Arkansas in men’s basketball. Game time is set for 7:00 pm and the game will now be televised on SEC Network Alternate. The Razorbacks are 6-0 all-time versus the Bears, including a 3-0 record in games played in Fayetteville. Although technically, this is the first meeting with “University of Central Arkansas”. The school was known as Arkansas State Normal School in 1923-24 and Arkansas State Teachers College from 1925-67. The series dates back to Arkansas’ first season of basketball. The teams met on back-to-back days during the 1923-24 season (Jan. 11 and 12) in Fayetteville with the Razorbacks winning 62-27 and 34-14, respectively.
