For the next two weeks, the homeless who rely on North Bay’s low-barrier shelter at night will be spending their time in a motel room.
Susan Rinneard, executive director for Crisis Centre North Bay, told The Nugget the centre decided to move the low-barrier shelter on Chippewa Street West to a motel to allow for a transition period.

“We have a few minor physical plant items to address at Chippewa Street and just didn’t have enough time to train our staff fully,” she said.

Several workers at the low-barrier shelter in North Bay have expressed health and safety concerns in anonymous letters to Catherine Matheson, CAO of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB), and board members with Nipissing Mental Health Housing and Support Services.
