AHIP and several other healthcare organizations launched the Connecting to Coverage Coalition last week in an effort to make the upcoming Medicaid redetermination process run smoothly. The coalition's website includes studies on Medicaid redeterminations and frequently asked questions for enrollees. AHIP also released a report that shows 53.6% of those who will lose coverage will transition to employer-sponsored insurance and 21.2% will become uninsured.
Congress should provide individuals with the ability to controltheir own health care decisions. The Tax Equity and AffordabilityAct, by giving individuals who do not fit into the current healthcare system an alternative way to secure private health carecoverage, embodies sound public policy and is based on free-marketprinciples that promote fairness, choice, and personalownership.
Today, the Census Bureau reports that there are 44.9 millionuninsured. But this Census Bureau number is inadequate and, inseveral important respects, unreliable.
Rather than expand Medicaid, a broken welfare program that promisesmore than it can deliver, Congress can directly help the uninsuredget quality private coverage by creating a new system of refundabletax credits as the President and a bipartisan group ofcongressional leaders have proposed.
