Contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電) and integrated circuit designer MediaTek Inc (聯發科) are optimistic about the “metaverse” concept, expecting it to create major opportunities for the semiconductor industry.

Arm has invested in the $7 million Series A funding round of eYs3D Microelectronics, which spun off from Etron Technology of Taiwan in 2016.
Etron was founded in 1991 by Nicky Lu to pursue DRAM technology. EYs3D was set up to develop processors for vision at the edge.
Apart from Arm, WI Harper the VC group and the distributor Marubun invested in the Series A.
The funding will allow eYs3D to grow its new product development for AI-based autonomous operation, including robotics, security, touchless control, autonomous vehicles and smart retail and to build out its embedded chip business in additional markets.
