MANSEHRA: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a cop sustained bullet injuries when one of the hoteliers and shop owners opposing an anti-encroachment drive resorted to open fire in Kaghan valley on Thursday, officials and locals said.
The sources said a group of hoteliers and shopkeepers, whose property was coming in the way of Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad road, had set tyres on fire in Naran to protest against the anti-encroachment drive.
The miscreants also stormed the Rescue 1122 station in Naran and partially damaged its two ambulances, they added.
They said that DSP, Balakot, Yaseen Janjua reached the spot to bring the situation under control when one of the protesters opened fire.
KARACHI: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three suspected militants, said to be part of a sleeper cell of outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who recently formed a new network in the metropolis.
Acting on a tip-off, the police carried out action in SITE’s Valika Ground and arrested Niaz Ali, Shahrukh and Ajab Khan and seized three pistols from them, said Keamari SSP Fida Husain Janwari.
Niaz Ali had joined the banned Jaish-i-Mohammed in 2015 and got militancy training in 2016, the SSP said, adding that he also collected donations for the JM. Later in 2020, Ali joined the TTP and “brainwashed” youths for carrying out terror activities.

At least five people, including four women, were killed and two injured in an attack on a house in Nowshera, the police said Wednesday.
Unidentified men opened fire on a house in Nowsheraâs Dak Ismail Khel area, according to a police spokesperson. The house belonged to a man named Niaz Ali.
Rescue workers shifted the bodies and injured to Rashid Hussain Shaheed Hospital. The police cordoned off the area.

Three policemen were suspended on Sunday after three people were wounded in a Baldia Town neighbourhood a day earlier. The cops have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Ziaullah, Police Constable Amir Khan and Police Constable Shahzad.
The Baldia Division superintendent of police will inquire into the incident, and if the suspended policemen are found guilty, a case will be registered against them and they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
