Jonathan Temm QC obituary: Rotorua mourns great legal mind and master in the courtroom

If the courtroom was a stage, Jonathan Temm QC was the star of the show. The great legal mind never liked to back down in an argument, but he lost one of his few battles on Wednesday when he died from a brain tumour surrounded by his family.
The 58-year-old has left a legacy among the legal fraternity who are mourning the loss of one of the country s greatest lawyers.
Temm QC was more than just a brilliant performer in the courtroom. His true talent lay in his ability to simply listen, give his time and make people feel like they have been heard.

Lawyer Jonathan Temm QC, who took part in some of the nation’s most high profile trials in recent years, including the Nia Glassie murder trial and the 2016 stop-go murder trial of Quinton Winders, has died. In a statement, the Law Society said it was with heavy hearts they learned of Temm s passing on Wednesday March 3, describing the Former Law Society president and Rotorua lawyer as a courageous, passionate man who dedicated much of his life to leadership roles at both local and national levels across the profession.
The death of a Christchurch toddler found inside a washing machine is being treated as unexplained.
Emergency services rushed to the house in Hoon Hay at around 5pm on Friday where the toddler was found. She was transported to hospital but died the following day.
While police originally said her death was not suspicious, Deputy Chief Coroner Anna Tuttonn said in a minute on Wednesday she had been advised the death was being investigated as unexplained. The police investigation into [the child s] death is at a very early stage. The investigation will include consideration and determination as to whether the death was suspicious or accidental, the coroner said.
