On June 20, domestic and international media toured the Olympic and Paralympic Village where athletes will be housed during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At one point, former J. League chairman and current “mayor” of the village, Saburo Kawabuchi, chided the assembled press, saying that they had talked about whether the games should proceed and that many Japanese people thought they shouldn’t, but at this point there was nothing to do but carry out the Olympics as planned. The games, he said, were not just for the Japanese people, but also something “Japan has promised to the world,” and he wondered why the media hadn’t properly promoted that aspect.

The press coverage of the matter has focused more on politics than on the content or purport of the bill. Inada has always been proud of her conservative credentials and obviously sees no conflict between those values and her support for sexual minorities in Japan, but certain colleagues and opinion-makers see this support as proof that she is veering from the true path.
As explained in a June 18 article on the News Post Seven website, part of Inada’s problem is that her presentation of the LGBTQ bill coincided with the presumed political resurgence of her mentor, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. News Post Seven says that Abe is exposing himself more readily to media scrutiny right now in a possible bid to regain the premiership. Conservatives applaud this move and have somehow identified Inada as a heretic in order to fortify Abe’s far-right support, even though in the past she was touted as his likely successor.

Military cooperation with Japan, US needed

There is at present no cooperation between the armed forces of Taiwan and Japan. However, as the threat to Taiwan from China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) increases by the day, existing communication and exchange mechanisms between Taiwan, Japan and the US could be leveraged to bring about a trilateral de facto military alliance between the three nations.
Japanese organizational theorist Kenichi Ohmae, in a Jan. 26 article published in the Japanese-language news magazine News Post Seven,wrote that Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) is exhibiting the behavior of an unalloyed fascist dictator.

The decline of PlayStation in Japan has been known about for a little while, but a new report has revealed Nintendo has almost completely pushed PlayStation out of the Japanese market. According to News Post Seven, the Nintendo Switch is completely dominating hardware and software sales, with PlayStation 4 barely getting a look in and PS5 nowhere to be seen.
Hideki Yasuda, a Senior Analyst at the Ace Economic Research Institute revealed the Covid-19 pandemic had a large impact on hardware and software sales in Japan. Demand for both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 was increased as people found themselves in lockdown. However, the Switch benefitted the most as a console that can either be played on a large screen with family or as a handheld device in another room.
