Three good causes in north Cumbria have benefitted from a share of nearly £70,000 in winter funding from a regional firm. Carlisle Foodbank, homelessness charity Carlisle Key, and Eden Carers Cumbria have in total been given £13,000 by Newcastle Building Society, as part of its winter round of community grants. All in all, the company provided £69,000 in funding to charities across the north east and Cumbria, the region where it operates. Eden Carers Cumbria, based in Penrith and Carlisle Key both received £4,000 each, while Carlisle Foodbank received £5,000. With its latest round of funding, the firm is seeking specifically to help charities dedicating to support elderly or isolated people, groups working with families experiencing food poverty, and organisations helping people facing homelessness - in light of the particular challenges each group is likely to face as winter draws in.
