UNITY A COVID-19 outbreak at Sullivan County nursing home has grown to include 18 people, according to the facility’s administrator.
Thirteen residents and five workers at Sullivan County nursing home had tested positive for COVID-19 as of Friday, up a total of four from the week before, Ted Purdy, the administrator, wrote in an update posted to social media.
But the facility has had no new positive results since Friday, “which is very encouraging,” he said in a Monday email.
The outbreak has forced the facility to pause visitation until it goes for two weeks without new positive results, Purdy said. Full personal protective equipment is in use on the affected units, MacConnell and Stearns.

Hot topic: The Oxbow Unified Union School District struggled to pass a budget for the current school year, finally succeeding on the fourth try, in mid-January, only three months ago. Voters in Newbury, Vt., also rejected an attempt to withdraw the town from the district, in which it is partnered with Bradford. Have the hot topics simmered down?
Budget: The proposed budget of nearly $17.2 million, which would fund the operations of Bradford Elementary School, Newbury Elementary School, Oxbow High School and River Bend Career and Technical Center, as well as preschool programs and the district s share of the Orange East Supervisory Union budget, is about $392,000 higher than the current year’s.

He said, however, that the high number of new cases reported today is concerning, and yet another reminder that we still must do everything we can to keep this virus from spreading. Finally, beginning at 8:15 am on Monday, March 29, Vermonters age 50 and older will be able to make an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine.
