Press Release – New Zealand Fashion Week
Auckland, NZ: Marking the beginning of activity for New Zealand Fashion Week 2021, partners and affiliates have gathered in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour to join forces with sponsorship experts, previous partners, and some of New Zealand’s most notable fashion personalities, on the pursuit of creating event and activation plans like those of pre-Covid times.
Hosted by Good Group Hospitality at Harbourside Ocean Bar Grill, offering the space, staff and catering in contra to support NZFW, the official event proceedings were led by New Zealand Fashion Week Brand and Commercial Manager, Myken Stewart, who set the scene for the upcoming activities and paid recognition to the 60-plus partner representatives in attendance.

A new exhibition opens this month at the University of
Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand, within the newly established
additional gallery space (The Foyer Galleries) of the
Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. Curator Liz Cooper
brings together exceptional makers Victoria McIntosh, Shona
Tawhiao (Ngai Te Rangi, Whakatōhea, Te Whanau Āpanui) and
Jo Torr, whose works are inspired by garments and
accessories. The exhibition, which is supported by a grant
from Creative New Zealand, tells stories with strong
political themes, examining conflict and discord, and
celebrating strength, endurance, skill and ingenuity in
feminine contexts. These makers explore 21st century issues
“My mother once explained that she had a sense something was different during her pregnancy with me, but that somehow she also knew instinctively that whatever happened, it would all be OK,” says Grace. When her baby daughter arrived 10 weeks early, Debbie Stratton’s hunch was realised. Grace had a difficult start in life and was diagnosed at age one with cerebral palsy, which affects her movement, muscle control, posture and balance. Grace has happy memories of growing up on the family sheep farm in Auckland’s Waimauku, although she admits she’s not especially fond of animals, nor particularly outdoorsy.
