Recent incidents in Detroit in which toddlers fell out of windows and survived highlight why it is important to secure openings, especially as the temperatures rise and folks try to cool off. Falls from windows are more common than people might think, the National Safety Council said, adding that more than 3,300 are injured in the U.S. each year from window falls. Windows rank as one of the top five hidden hazards in the home.
The two falls were among a handful nationwide.
Two children both boys were taken to hospitals Friday and treated for injuries in two separate incidents in which they fell out of a window, according to police and news accounts.
