i could get up on a soap box and say we still perform a very valuable civic function even though people like to get their news for free on the internet. it s sad because we re part of an important public conversation. in southern california i don t think there s a more important institution than the l.a. times. we start conversations and we keep them going. when we have fur people to make that happen, it s tough. but we re trying to do what we can. i ll tell you what, every day you open the l.a. times. here we are bankrupt. yes, there are empty desks. there s good stuff in the paper every day. it s still fun to work in that environment. local television is not in the same league journalist tickly speaking. it s sirens, fire engines. i m now working with a public television station, it s a half hour of three seven-minute stories. that s real local news. i m enjoying trying that out. no, local tv news, network affiliates, there s nothing to look for there. so what you re saying
