The suspect has surrendered to the police. Lt. Col. Roland Lavisto, Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) chief of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO), told the Philippine News Agency on Monday that broadcaster Renato "Rey" Blanco was facing two libel charges and a complaint for violation of Republic Act 9262, or the law on Violence Against Women and Children.

Negros Oriental racks up most arrests in C Visayas

(PNA file photo) DUMAGUETE CITY -The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) topped other provinces in Central Visayas (Region 7) in having the highest number of arrests in a single day during the "One Time, Big Time" region-wide anti-criminality operations. The NOPPO report on Friday said a total of 188 persons, including 12 of the most wanted in the province, were arrested on August 30. The top three performers are the Dumaguete City police with 20 arrests; Siaton police with 16; and Sta. Catalina police with 15 in the day-long operations against various forms of crime as well as the service of arrest warrants. Col. Jonathan Pineda, Negros Oriental officer-in-charge provincial chief, attributed the accomplishment to the "collective dedication and persistence of PNP (Philippine National Police) personnel in the province".
