The NHRA just created a class for electric vehicle drag racing

SHARE STORY The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has added an electric vehicle class for its drag racing events. The sanctioning body made the decision after a series of meetings on electric drag racing over the last four years. Large domestic brands such as Chevrolet and Ford have already shown us what they can do with electric power, with the eCOPO Camaro and the Cobra Jet 1400 prototypes, respectively. NHRA Vice President of Competition Ned Walisser said the new class will provide automakers with “a platform to showcase their EV technology, production, and racing efforts,” while we hope some grassroots racers also turn their attention to the electric scene. Rules for the class aren’t fully fleshed out yet, so it’s unclear what the vehicles will look like.
