Bangladesh is dealing with its worst dengue outbreak. With four new deaths recorded yesterday, dengue fatalities this year rose to 597, which is more than double compared to the previous record since the mosquito-borne disease’s first official outbreak in 2000.
Around 56.79 percent of the 71 dengue patients, who passed away between August 20 and August 26, died of shock syndrome while 10.4 percent died of expanded dengue syndrome, according to data of the Directorate General of Health Services.

With 2,201 infections in the last 24 hours till yesterday morning, the total number of dengue cases in August rose to 56,798, setting a monthly record.
