Coronavirus claims seven more lives, infects 966 others

Covid-19 claimed seven more lives in Sindh during the last 24 hours (May5), bringing the death toll to 4,698 in the province.
As many as 966 new cases emerged when 13,821 tests were conducted, said Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in his daily Covid-19 situation report on Thursday. He added that with 4,698 deaths, the COVID-19 fatality rate stood 1.6 per cent .
Shah said 13,821 samples were tested, which detected 966 cases that constituted a seven per cent current detection rate. He added that so far 3,725,821 tests had been conducted against which 289,646 cases had been diagnosed. Of them 92.4 per cent or 267,524 patients have recovered, including 805 overnight.

Amid rising coronavirus cases in the province and Eidul Fitr just round the corner the Sindh government announced on Thursday a new set of Covid-19 restrictions.
The decision to tighten pandemic-related restrictions was taken during a meeting of the coronavirus task force, presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
During the meeting, it was decided that restaurants will be allowed to offer take-away services till Maghrib prayers, after which only the home delivery service will be available. This will be in effect starting tomorrow until Sunday.

Sindh reported 1,115 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, with the virus claiming 12 more lives in the province, according to a statement issued by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on the day. This was the highest single-day tally reported in the province since January 29, 2021 and marked the fourth straight day that the province saw over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases.
A sudden surge had been observed in Sindh s singleday tally around two weeks ago, when the number of cases being reported every day increased by hundreds, eventually surpassing the 1,000 mark on Tuesday. Deaths have started rising due to the novel coronavirus in Sindh, with 14 patients losing their lives in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 4,576 in the province.
A total of 9,696 patients were under treatment in the province: 9,213 in home isolation, nine at isolation centres and 474 at hospitals. The condition of 433 patients being treated at hospitals was stated to be critical. Fifty-two were on life support.
Another 734 cases emerged when 12,659 tests were conducted on April 21, showing a 5.7 per cent detection rate, said Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in his daily Covid-19 update report on Thursday.
So far 3,524,497 tests have been conducted against which 275,814 people have been diagnosed with the disease. Of them 94.8 per cent or 261,542 patients have recovered, including 244 overnight.
