Residents Call For Proper Treatment Of Mashpee-Wakeby Pond Islands

Shorefront residents in the Mashpee-Wakeby Pond area are hoping for a proactive approach this year to deal with proper upkeep of the pond’s three islands. Cleveland, Keith and Jefferson Islands are three islands in Wakeby Pond that residents believe have been subject to mistreatment over the past several years. All three islands are an acre or less in size. “There’s trash being left out there, there’s people partying out there. There’s people sleeping out there, cutting down the growth out there, all those types of things,” said Dave Sampson, a resident of Cove Road in Sandwich, which is adjacent to the pond, about the typical summertime behavior.
