National Thesaurus Day is celebrated on January 18 to honor Peter Mark Roget, the author of Rogets Thesaurus. Roget retired in 1840 and dedicated the rest of his life to creating the first thesaurus in 1852. The word thesaurus has its origins in the Sanskrit word Amarakosha.
