Transcripts For CSPAN3 The Contenders Ross Perot 20240712

Cspan3, created by americas Cable Television companies as a Public Service and brought to you today by your television provider. Were 4 trillion in debt. Were going into debt on an additional 1 billion every working day of the year. As we sit here tonight, we will go into debt an additional 50 million in an hour and a half. Its not the republicans fault, of course, and its not the democrats fault, and what im looking for is who did it. Now, theyre the two folks involved, so maybe if you put them together, they did it. The facts are, we have to fix it. Somewhere out there there is an extraterrestrial doing this to us, i guess. Everybody said they will take responsibility. Someone somewhere has to take responsibility for this. That was independent candidate ross perot during three separate debates in 1992 talking about one of his favorite issues, the u. S. Debt. In that election the texas businessman won 90 of the popular vote, the largest vote for an independent candidate since. Thanks

Man hadnt democrats. I cant shake the feeling that some people here are pulling for me. [applause] im delighted to see her tonight hillary. I feel right at home here because it is often said i share the politics of alfred e. Smith and the ears of alfred newman. It is an honor to be here with al smith. I never knew your greatgrandfather. Everything senator mccain told me, the two of them had a great time before prohibition. [laughter] of course im delighted to testify on the 18th amendment. I felt all along that this matter was the rank and file about people they would readily see that it had no place in our constitution. It would be very difficult if not impossible to come to this country for the coming generations to make it their business to see that no such matter is this is ever again made the subject to federal constitutional law. And youve been listening to the 2008 president ial nominees talking at that years ill smith dinner. Followed by al smith himself talking about prohibiti

Transcripts For CSPAN3 Lectures In History Presidential Debates 20240712

Happen. When was the first debate . This is a false hint. Those debates were when they were running for the senate. They had numerous debates. Kind of an odd situation. The real first president ial debate was between kennedy and nixon in 1960. Richard nixon had been Vice President for eight years. Much better known than kennedy. Nixon had taken advantage of television. He was known as a fierce debater. They decided to sponsor a series of debates. Confident and willing. He was the front runner. The consensus was, these debates cost nixon the election. Which was very close. It elevated kennedy immediately. Now they are on an even level. The senator and the Vice President. Also his appearance was much better. Much more handsome. More telegenic. There have been some studies on this. The people who listens to the , and they were very boring back then. They had very long answers. They are more interesting now. Those who listen to the first debate on radio thought nixon won. Those who watched
