Who always chairs the appropriating committee nd from the library, and i think thats particularly helpful you could be here with us for this today as well. Also a member of this committee. So shes here as a member of the committee but also on these topics, particularly valuable in her role as appropriating. Weve been having with the library, with the smithsonian, with the architect of the capitol, these kinds of oversight hearings to fulfill that responsibility and be sure were giving the agencies the help they need. Were glad to be here, of course, with the librarian, dr. Carla heyden, and karen temple, registry of copyrights. I think we want to talk primarily about modernization. We had a chance with dr. Hayden at the last meeting to talk about the Physical Plant ideas of how to make the library even more of an experience for people who visit there. I think we want to talk about today more of how the modernization of the i. T. Elements at the library are coming together and how all s
Director of the Global Energy center here at the Atlantic Council. Thank you for joining us today for this discussion, assessing democratic president ial candidates climate and energy policies. I dont think this could be anymore timely given today is the first day that President Trump can formally begin withdrawal from the paris agreement. And a year ago a year ago yesterday is the election. So we have a whole another year of this. President trumps animosity towards Climate Policy is at least part of the reason Climate Change has become a top priority for Democratic Candidates in the president ial race. Its also the result of increased media coverage, climate induced flooding and wildfires, calls to action in the Green New Deal and the Global Climate strikes and voter demands for candidates to formalize demands for energy plans. The september townhall was unprecedented in the seriousness that candidates and at least part of the electorate had in addressing the issue. But the devil is i
For your service to our country. 13 people lost their lives, 30 people were injured. It underscores what we are dealing with here in terms of a threat environment. This is my ninth annual threat hearing that i have either chaired or participated in. I often say im not the most uplifting character. Those i could say that in nine years, i have seen tremendous progress being made and we have reduced these threats and all is well. Unfortunately, we face the same threats. If anything, the threats are growing. Nine years ago, we were talking about the blind use of drive drones or the use of social media. We face the same threats. They are evolving. Terrorist groups are metastasizing. They are spreading around the world. , it has happened is grown more complex and difficult. You have tremendous responsibilities on your shoulders. Really, i will turn it over to my Ranking Member and we will get to witness testimony. Thank you. Thank you for your service and thank you for being here today. As w

Can i get everybodys attention . It is my great privilege to introduce the senator from new york. Senator schumer. [applause] thank you, those in government and out who are working on these issues which are so important to the National Security of our country and to the future economy of our country as well. The two sort of combine. I thank you for the commission for the good work you have done. I think eric and bob schmidt for getting me to speak here. When congress set up the commission i couldnt think of two better folks to lead it. I very much appreciate that because this is one of the issues that is probably the most important facing us. If you look at the ratio of how much attention this issue gets in terms of what government should be doing as opposed to its importance it is one of the lowest ratios that there is and that is not good for the future of the country. We all know that Artificial Intelligence is changing everything, how we communicate, how we conduct commerce, how we
