New study reveals cost-effectiveness of pediatric readiness in emergency departments

A study published in the Journal of the American College of Emergency Physicians Open demonstrates that adhering to national pediatric care guidelines in emergency departments (EDs) not only saves children s lives but also is cost-effective, ranging from $4 to $48 per patient. This research conducted by Dr. Marianne Gausche-Hill of The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (TLI) offers compelling evidence about the financial feasibility of being "pediatric ready."

BGH earns pediatric treatment recognition

Bonner General Health's Emergency Department is the first critical access hospital in Idaho to be recognized as pediatric capable by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. That means the hospital's Emergency Department has pediatric-specific rules, procedures, equipment, people, and resources to address the special needs of children (birth-teen) requiring specialist emergency care. Improvements in pediatric readiness in emergency departments across the country are required, according to a recent National Pediatric Readiness Project Assessment.
