Producer of soy biodiesel since 2014, 3tentos is entitled to decarbonization credits and will transfer them to BASF, in exchange for the supply of agricultural inputs. The two companies already carry out traditional soybean barter operations and now BASF will receive a new currency, the CBIOs.
BASF started to develop this barter model last year, based on the National Biofuels Policy (RenovaBio). The entry into the carbon market, involving “green bonds”, allows the company to meet the needs of customers and encourage activities aimed at the production of renewable energy in the country.
With the negotiation, 3tentos uses the CBIOs to which it is entitled as exchange assets. This new currency values companies that produce renewable energy and contribute to annual decarbonization goals for the fuel sector.

Chinese power generation company China Three Gorges (CTG) Brasil recently announced the “neutralisation” of its carbon emissions. The goal was achieved, among other things, through the purchase of over 8,000 carbon credits for a conservation project in Vale do Jari, Amapá state, which protects an area of 200,000 hectares.
The purchase helps the company mitigate the environmental impact of projects such as the São Manoel hydroelectric plant on the border between Pará and Mato Grosso, which came into operation in 2018 after being fiercely questioned by environmentalists and indigenous groups. After faltering for many years, India’s ethanol blended petrol programme (EBP), designed to reduce the country’s fossil fuel dependence and trim its large crude oil import bill, appears to be taking baby steps. In the first four months of the current supply year (December 2020 to November 2021), about 80 crore litres of ethanol have made it to the fuel pumps, translating to a blending ratio of 7 per cent.
