The Interior Ministry announced on an agreement reached with the EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM) to draft and adopt a joint memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Interior Minister Khaled Mazen reaffirmed, alongside the head of the European Union mission, Natalina Cea, the advancement of the two sides’ understandings, as well as the debate and exchange of views on various agreed-upon projects aimed at strengthening the Ministry’s skills in a number of critical disciplines.

MEMO, Commander of Operation IRINI Rear Admiral Fabio Agostini disputes the criticism that the operation fails to effectively enforce the arms embargo imposed on Libya by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), aiming to limit foreign interference in the country s internal conflict.
On the contrary, the Italian admiral asserts: In ten months of activity, Operation IRINI has demonstrated its effectiveness and impartiality [in] implementing the UNSC s arms embargo throughout its area of operations, regardless of the actors involved.
Operation IRINI was launched after the previous European Union Naval Force operation, code-named Operation Sophia, ended in March 2020. While Operation Sophia focused on illegal migration out of Libya, IRINI is tasked with enforcing the UN arms embargo and fighting trafficking out of the country.

Libya. She will take up her duties on
1 February 2021 succeeding Vincenzo Tagliaferri, who has been Head of Mission since 1 September 2016.
Natalina Cea is an Italian civil servant who has worked at a senior level for more than 20 years, both in Italy – as Director of the International Cooperation and Technical Assistance Office of the Italian Customs Administration – and internationally, leading missions, programs and projects in the civilian security sector, particularly in the field of border management and related security and justice issues.
EUBAM Libya, a civilian Mission under the Common Security and Defence Policy, was launched on 22 May 2013. It is tasked with contributing to the Libyan authorities’ efforts to disrupt organised criminal networks involved in smuggling of migrants, human trafficking and terrorism.
