An opposition councilor in the eastern town of Narva says that despite hopes that dialogue with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas (Reform) will prove fruitful, councilors there still plan to go to court against the state, over the removal of a controversial Soviet-era tank monument.
Narva City Council members said their meeting today with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas (Reform) was positive. It will be decided on Wednesday if the council plans to take the government to court over the removal of the T-34 tank monument from the city.
On Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas (Reform) met with members of Narva City Council at Stenbock House in Tallinn. Following their meeting, the city council members will decide whether or not to take the Estonian state to court over the removal of the Soviet "Tank T-34" monument from the northeastern border city in mid-August.
Center Party chair and Riigikogu speaker Jüri Ratas has condemned statements made by MP Mihhail Stalnuhhin's comments about the recent removal of a controversial Soviet-era tank monument from the eastern border town of Narva. Stalnuhhin in effect said the Estonian state as personified in the current government pursues a 'Nazi' ideology.
